Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,
so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.

Romans 12:4-5 (NLT)

The Bible talks about what it means to be a Christian in a few different ways. One of those ways is to talk about us as part of a body--the body of Christ. Though we all have different gifts (Rom 12:6; 1 Cor 12) and each of us is created for a unique purpose

(Eph 2:10), we are meant to be in community with one another, understanding that "as each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love" (Eph 4:16 NLT).

For most of us it takes special effort to learn how to be in true, Biblical community together--it doesn't come naturally. So, while it's true that anytime we are together we should recognize the opportunity to commune together, we make a special effort to set aside times to learn how to enjoy life together with purpose.
